100-day kit. This kit was one of the main recommendations by the pediatrician who diagnosed our son with autism. It is offered to newly diagnosed families by Autism Speaks (click here).  It recommends what a family needs to do in the first 100 days after the diagnosis is made. Initially, our family could not order it because we did not live in the USA. A year later, we figured out a way to get the electronic version in Vietnam. Had we had this information, we would have much more quickly understood autism and what we needed to do.  Let us know if you need help to get copy and how to apply the information in your location/situation.

A365. A365 is the lead organization raising awareness about autism in Vietnam. Please see their website (A365.vn) for developmental testing (MCHAT-R, ASQ3) for your child. They are currently updating their website with improved family training and much more.

AAP 2016.  American Academy of Pediatrics.  AAP is the leading organization in the United States for children’s health. In 2016, they issued updated screen time limits for children as the body of evidence was showing that there are a number of associated health risks.   See:  Council of communication and media. Media and young minds. Pediatrics. 2016;138:e20162591(click here).

Act Early.  Act Early (click here) is a US CDC program that aims to improve early identification of children with autism and other developmental disabilities so children and families can get the services and support they need. The program is made up of three components: Health education campaign. Act Early Initiative, and Research and evaluation.   They produce the Act Early CDC’s Milestone Tracker App (click here) to track early childhood develop.  This is the app that our family has used for our infant and that we wish we had used for our first son.

ASQ3.  Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ – 3) is a set of questionnaires about children’s development. Screening provides a quick look at how children are doing in important areas, such as communication, gross motor, fine motor, personal-social skills, and problem-solving skills. It can be used for children from 1 month to 5 ½ years old, and it’s designed to be filled out by parent or caregiver. If possible, it is best to have an experienced person complete this form to provide more accurate information.   It is available at A365.vn .

CDC.  The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is the lead government agency in the US for all disease prevention and control in the USA.  This is a source for reliable information.  They have an initiative (Learn the Signs, Act Early), a number of documents and on-line trainings that are very helpful for autism.

ESDM3.  Early Start Denver Model Introductory Workshops (click here).  I attended this on-line workshop which I found very helpful.  The next steps required international travel or brining experts to Vietnam which was cost-limiting at that time.
